It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you of the passing of our long term trustee and previous chair person, Ann Groves, who sadly passed away in August.
Ann was aged 84, and gave a lifetime of service to the community of Harrow where she
Ann was elected to Harrow Council in 1990 and became Mayor in 1999; she served through the millennium year. Harrow Council described her as a “forceful and forthright champion for the underprivileged and needy” and noted her lifelong dedication to charitable causes.
After 16 years as a Councillor she stood down and turned her attentions to the many local organisations with which she had developed connections. Harrow Association of Disabled People, Age Concern, Harrow Alzheimer’s Society and Harrow Women’s Centre were some of the charities that she chaired.
As the current chair of HAD, I think that Ann was amazing. She was very good at running meetings, time-keeping, being assertive and actively making change. She set the bar very high for myself and is one of my role models.
Ann was a powerful, inspiring, helpful, compelling and extremely capable. Ann leaves behind a great legacy. She made a huge contribution to HAD and our future good work will be done in her honour.
Thank you Ann Groves.
