Advocacy Services

1. HAD's General Advocacy Service

We offer independent advocacy support to Harrow Residents of all ages who have a disability or a long term health condition.

What is Advocacy?

Advocacy is a way of empowering people to:

  • Articulate their views, wishes, feelings, either themselves or through a competent and independent voice
  • Safeguard their rights
  • Ensure services are accessible, appropriate and identify gaps in the service provision
  • Ensure the voice of the person is heard, and influences decisions made about them by people in power

Our aims and values

We believe that:

  • people should be involved in decisions that are made about them and their lives
  • everyone can communicate
  • people have the right of to express their views and wishes, and be listened to and taken seriously

We aim to:

  • offer independent advocacy support that is client led, person centered, and is tailored to the person's individual needs
  • work in collaboration with the people we support, and in a way that identifies and makes use of their strengths and abilities
  • promote the development of self advocacy skills, so that people feel more able to speak up for themselves, with the just the right amount of advocacy support
  • maintain high level of confidentiality, except where is immediate and severe levels of risk that require action to safeguard people

2. Harrow Health Complaints Advocacy Service

Would you like to make a complaint about an NHS service?

We provide tailored support to Harrow residents who wish to raise concerns about health care and treatment provided or commissioned by the National Health Service (NHS). NHS services include:

Pharmacists

NHS Dentists & Opticians

Ambulance Service

NHS funded nursing homes and other specialist services

3. Harrow Children & Young People's Advocacy Service

Would you like support to say what you want and get people to listen to your views, when important decisions are being made about your life?

Or do you know a young person who would benefit from independent advocacy support?

We work with young people aged 7 - 25 years old, who are:

  • Looked after children
  • Care leavers
  • Children in need (including young people with a disability up to 25 years
  • Refugee and asylum seeking children
  • Having a Child Protection Conference
  • Seeking support to make a complaint about social care services
